Vodka... or cake?

Rye, tequila, whiskey, Hendricks gin. These are my hard liquors of choice. But my dad? He'll give you one answer: vodka.

So when my aunt planned to throw my dad a surprise 60th birthday party (back in February), I knew exactly what kind of cake I needed to make.

Absolut Vodka isn't necessarily his favorite, but there was something that I just loved about the bottle. So I decided to use it as my muse.

What a delicious, edible muse it turned out to be.

My dad's (self-appointed) "nickname" is Jake da snake. So naturally, Absolut (Country of Sweden) Vodka turned into Jake (Da Snake) Vodka. And a recipe for his favorite drink, self-appointed "holy water" (98% vodka, 2% soda, and a squeeze of lime) is shown next to the bottle.

It's funny, because while I've looked at an Absolut bottle a million times, but I've never actually read the bottle. Have you?!? This is what the bottle originally says:

This superb vodka was distilled from grain grown in the rich fields of southern Sweden. It has been produced at the famous old distilleries near Ahus in accordance with more than 400 years of Swedish tradition. Vodka has been sold under the name Absolut since 1879

And this is what the Jake Da Snake Vodka bottle reads:

This superb vodka was distilled from grain grown in the mountains of northern Iraq. It has been produced in accordance with more than 60 years of Assyrian tradition

Everyone definitely got a kick out of that one! And the birthday boy was pretty happy with the surprise too.

We figured 60 candles might burn down the house, 

so we opted for 6 and 0 shaped candles.

Yes, my brother and I (along with a small chunk of our family) celebrated his big day
